Don’t know the species, but the vivid redness of these berries sure decorated the woods.
Some thing are best portrayed with pictures, and in this case, a video would have really captured the dog’s glee and abandon. It’s been a while since we visited the state park that’s just on the other side of Madison’s largest lake. An unusually warm afternoon made it mandatory to take a hike. I don’t like the term “Indian summer,” but that’s what this is.

Having the sun set when you get off work isn’t all bad, not when it looks like this.
This is not a shot that needs to be larger — it’s depressing enough at this size. “Frozen windshield in the morning, sailor take warning.” Isn’t that an old saw? (I’m kidding.)
A bucket of warm water would have done the trick, but I don’t mind a little scraping to get my blood circulating and build up a little body heat in the morning. I really don’t mind winter; it just takes preparation. As does life.

This was early morning as I’m heading east to work. This particular sky symbolized for me my mood and thoughts, where I’m always breaking through the clouds, which can get pretty dark and stormy, but there’s always sunshine eventually.
